When a request fails, Orvlin returns a non-2xx status code and a JSON body.
  • error is a message for developers. Don’t show it to end users.
  • details is present for validation failures. It lists each problem with its field path.

Retrying safely

Retry 429, 500, and 503 responses with exponential backoff and a random jitter. Don’t retry 400, 401, 403, or 404; fix the request first. When you retry a request that creates a record, send the same idempotency key so the record isn’t created twice. See Idempotency.

Handling errors in the SDKs

The Node.js and Python SDKs raise an error with the HTTP status on it. Check the status to decide whether to retry.
