API keys let your servers call the Orvlin API. Each key has a name, a role, and a secret.
A key’s secret is shown once, when it is created. Store it in your secret manager. If you lose it, create a new key and revoke the old one.

Create a key

Creating a key requires a signed-in user session, so you can’t create a key with another key.
Response (201 Created):
secret appears only in this response.

Roles

Give each key the smallest role that does its job. A key can’t be created with a higher role than the person creating it. A developer user can’t create an admin key; the key is created with the developer role instead.

List keys

Returns each key’s id, name, and role. The secret is never returned after creation.

Revoke a key

Revoked keys stop working immediately. Requests with them return 401.
Revoking requires a signed-in user session.

Rotate a key

  1. Create a new key with the same role.
  2. Deploy your application with the new key.
  3. Revoke the old key.
